How to create a recipe book in OneNote

Microsoft OneNote is an incredible tool for storing, organizing, and sharing notes, which makes it the perfect digital recipe book! Before you get started, you’ll want to think about how you’d like to organize all your recipes. Maybe you want to group them by meal, type of cuisine, or main ingredient. There’s no wrong way to organize this information, and the beauty of OneNote is that you can reorganize at any time. Once you’ve gathered all your recipes, whether they’re physical or online, it’s time to put them in your digital recipe book. Here’s how you can put together your digital recipe book using OneNote:

  1. Create a notebook in OneNote. You’ll want to start a new notebook to hold all your dinner party inspiration. Select +Add notebook from the bottom of your list of existing notebooks. Give your new recipe book a cute name so it stands out from your other notebooks and is easy to find.
  2. Create tabs. Here’s where those organizational ideas from earlier come into play. Once your new notebook is set up, look at the bottom navigation and select +Add section to create a new tab. You can name these tabs and sections whatever you like if they help you keep your recipes organized. If you need to rearrange your tabs, doing so is as easy as dragging and dropping.
  3. Add recipes. Give each recipe its own page within a tab by selecting +Add page in the bottom navigation. You’ll be able to drag and drop each page to a different section if you need to reorganize your recipes after you get started.

Tips for using OneNote to store and organize recipes

It’s easy to create and organize a digital notebook to store your recipes, whether they’ve been handed down within your family or clipped from an online source like a food blog or magazine. Using OneNote for your recipes makes it easy to share ideas with friends or make notes about certain dishes in real time without messing up a recipe card. These tips can help you use OneNote to its full potential!

  • Save from the web to OneNote. Use the OneNote Clipper to capture any webpage directly to your digital recipe book. Store recipes from your favorite online sources and edit and annotate them as needed. You can clip the whole webpage or reduce the clutter and only save the parts you need.
  • Make notes. Recipes are meant to be guidelines. You may choose to put your own spin on a dish, or perhaps you prefer to prepare it with a teaspoon more of salt. Annotate and add notes to any of the recipes you’ve shared in your OneNote recipe book without running out of space!
  • Share with friends and family. When your Aunt Jean asks for a copy of the recipe for your famous casserole, you don’t have to write it out for her anymore! Instead, you can easily share your OneNote recipes with friends and family.
  • Customize it! Your digital recipe book in OneNote can be exactly what you want it to be. Create a page template to achieve the look you want. Delete recipes you never use or that didn’t win over your family. Reorganize as you see fit. This is your recipe collection, and you can make it whatever you need it to be!
  • Access from anywhere. Even if you’re not at home, you can access recipes that you’ve stored in OneNote from anywhere thanks to OneDrive cloud storage. Pull up recipes on any device, wherever you are.

Your family’s recipes are a way to unlock wonderful memories and can create a sense of togetherness. Preserve those memories of good times with every saved recipe and keep them safe and sound in your OneNote recipe book.
