How does the new Memory feature in Copilot work?

We get it—life can be a lot. That’s why Copilot, with its Memory feature, is here to remember the things that matter to you and act as a helpful companion. As you use Copilot, it will take note of your interactions, creating a richer user profile and tailored solutions you can depend on. From suggestions for a new vacation spot to a product you might enjoy, Copilot is your go-to AI companion that helps you feel understood and seen.

Copilot prioritizes security and privacy, giving you control through the Microsoft privacy settings on your user profile. If you choose, you can take the following steps to disable the Memory feature in Copilot:

Go to Settings in Copilot.
Select Account, then select Privacy.
Now, go to Personalization and memory and toggle the feature off.

And if you want to enable the Memory feature in the future, follow the same steps and toggle Personalization on.

If you've opted to let Copilot store information about you but would like the AI companion to forget a specific memory or one-off fact, you can tell it to do so, and that fact will be removed. And if you no longer want Copilot to remember anything about you, simply toggle off the Personalization feature in your settings. You are always in control.

Where can you access Copilot’s new Memory feature?

Copilot's Memory feature is enabled for all users who have Personalization toggled on in their Microsoft profile settings. Just log in with your Microsoft account and start the conversation! Copilot will remember your past conversations and preferences, so you don’t need to worry about repeating yourself. Additionally, you can visualize Copilot's Memories of you in a visual Narrative on the Copilot mobile app. This feature will be coming to the web version of Copilot soon.
