CleverIT Group drives 30 percent improved customer productivity with Azure AI Foundry

Many of CleverIT Group’s customers suffered from poor visibility into the productivity of contracted developers. This negatively effected product quality, decision-making, and development timelines.

CleverIT Group rapidly concepted, developed, and implemented Pulzen, which provides unified real-time visibility into developer productivity. Pulzen uses GitHub Copilot and Azure AI Foundry to parse diverse data and deliver actionable insights.

Pulzen has already realized as much as a 30% increase in developer productivity at customer organizations. It has also helped uncover particularly low-productivity individuals, known as “ghost engineers.”

CleverIT Group

When presented with a common productivity issue, CleverIT Group developed Pulzen—a new, AI-driven solution capable of improving performance as much as 30 percent—in less than a month. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, CleverIT Group is a member of the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program specializing in the development of novel software solutions that help improve IT productivity and optimize business operations for its customers.

Recently, multiple customers reached out to CleverIT with similar asks. When hiring outside developer teams, these customers lacked a centralized way to measure, analyze, and compare the performance of these professionals. This lack of transparency was not just making accurate productivity assessments difficult, it was also complicating the decision-making process throughout project development. CleverIT’s customers worried this could lead to ineffective use of resources, delays, and less consistent products. They needed a way to connect developer work to business value, understand why some teams struggled while their peers thrived, and to address higher-than-expected developer turnover rates stemming from low morale.

Hearing these concerns, CleverIT created Pulzen, an AI-powered platform that offers easily digested data-driven productivity and performance insights that help teams understand, optimize, and improve the development process. Initially conceived as an internal tool, the broad applicability of Pulzen drove CleverIT to offer its utility as a service to customers as well. Using Azure AI FoundryAzure OpenAI ServiceAzure Kubernetes ServiceAzure Container Apps and numerous other Microsoft solutions, CleverIT was able to take Pulzen from concept to execution in less than a month. “Pulzen is a direct response to a challenge we saw across nearly every client: the lack of objective, centralized visibility into development team performance. Thanks to our partnerships with Microsoft and GitHub, we’ve transformed that challenge into a strategic opportunity to drive real, measurable benefits for our clients,” says Martin Burns, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Growth at CleverIT Group

AI-powered productivity insights

With Pulzen, organizations can generate advanced analytics through the use of integrated AI from GitHub Copilot to uniformly measure and compare developers across internal and vendor-supplied teams. This helps ensure fair and consistent assessment through the use of detailed real-time graphics, tables, alerts, and dashboards. CleverIT was able to prototype this solution as rapidly as it did, without the traditional upfront costs, by making use of the initial benefit credits included in its Microsoft Azure subscription.

CleverIT’s Azure subscription also helped as Pulzen transitioned into production‑grade service. At that point, Clever IT adopted a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) model—gaining full control over billing, support, and subscription management. CleverIT also enrolled Pulzen in ISV Success, streamlining their go‑to‑market plan by listing the solution as a SaaS offering in the Microsoft marketplace and integrating their billing directly through Azure, allowing customers purchase and renew Pulzen seamlessly through their Azure accounts. As well as helping Pulzen reach the market quickly in a way convenient to its customers, Azure helped CleverIT overcome numerous challenges the company had identified at the beginning of the development process.

To address the increased data coming from GitHub and other sources, the company adopted Azure Kubernetes Service for container orchestration and Azure Container Apps for microservices. Both solutions gave the company the rapid scalability, low latency, and high availability Pulzen required. In order to gain the necessary end-to-end view of their distributed solution, CleverIT went beyond the capacity of manual monitoring tools, implementing Azure Monitor Application Insights to consolidate all application metrics, logs, and traces. This simplified troubleshooting and improved mean time to resolution. From the early stages, CleverIT kept in communication with both Microsoft and GitHub, using both organizations’ expertise to its advantage. Microsoft provided guidance and support through access to key frameworks such as DORA (DevOps Research and Assessment) and GitHub contributed the SPACE framework—both of which have become foundational to how Pulzen monitors and analyzes software development productivity.

All of Pulzen’s user data and operational telemetry are stored in Azure Cosmos DB, a globally distributed, multi‑model NoSQL database that guarantees ultra‑low latency, elastic scalability, and schema‑agnostic storage. This has helped Pulzen efficiently manage large volumes of both structured and unstructured data. CleverIT’s custom AI model “Vera” is also hosted and managed via Azure AI Foundry, allowing for seamless integration with Azure OpenAI Service to deliver fine‑tuned generative AI capabilities for data analysis and insight generation. “With Pulzen, we’ve built more than a dashboard—we’ve created an intelligent, AI-powered platform that unifies data from GitHub and Copilot and delivering the kind of insights that engineering leaders have been asking for. GitHub Copilot was a key enabler that allowed our development team to move at unprecedented speed, helping us go from concept to a working product in under a month. The technical feedback and collaboration from both Microsoft and GitHub were essential in refining and scaling the solution,” says Carlos Gallardo, Chief Product Officer for Pulzen & CleverIT Tools.

Demonstrable productivity benefits and expanded horizons

GitHub Copilot was a key enabler of Pulzen’s fast development. CleverIT’s team used Copilot in the IDE to accelerate coding tasks by an estimated 30%, reducing time spent on boilerplate code, backend scaffolding, and test generation. This allowed Pulzen to go from concept to MVP in under a month.

That internal productivity boost meant Pulzen could deliver value to customers faster. And now, Pulzen helps those same customers realize similar gains—20–30% improvements in team performance by leveraging insights from GitHub and Copilot data. GitHub Copilot accelerated both Pulzen's product development and the customers’ outcomes.

Pulzen has also helped address a second long-standing issue in the industry: the presence of “ghost engineers”—those who appear on rosters but whose output is 10% or less of the average team member’s. Upon adopting Pulzen, customer organizations reported that ghost engineers represented as much as 15% of their teams. Pulzen’s transparent reporting and standardized metrics have enabled them to significantly reduce inefficiencies and improve ROI.

Alongside the rapid ideation-to-implementation process that brought Pulzen to market in under a month, CleverIT continues to demonstrate the benefits of the solution’s innovative development. Because the solution is built to natively incorporate the comprehensive security framework of Azure, CleverIT can easily and demonstrably safeguard sensitive data and maintain strict compliance with international data security standards. This alongside the ability to replicate services across multiple geographic regions in Azure helps ensure that the solution is resilient against outages and prepares CleverIT to expand across broader, more diverse markets than its solutions might otherwise have been able to.

CleverIT is committed to continuing the work it has now proven possible with Pulzen: delivering rapid, effective, and highly secure AI-driven solutions. Company leadership believes that AI is a practical, enabling technology that resolves tangible challenges, streamlines processes, and contributes to the overall competitive advantage of the organizations that adopt it. “Pulzen reflects our commitment to building innovative, scalable solutions that solve real-world problems, and our partnership with Microsoft has been a key catalyst in making that vision a reality,” says Diego Stevens, Chief Executive Officer at CleverIT Group.
