Writesonic moves to Azure, increasing enterprise revenue tenfold

AI marketing and SEO platform Writesonic was increasing its user base and needed a stable, enterprise-ready AI-powered cloud platform that provided speed, reliability, and security.

Writesonic migrated to Azure and uses Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure AI Foundry Models, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) to power its 24/7 AI SEO and content agents for generating data-driven, SEO-optimized marketing strategies and content.

Using Azure, Writesonic has built a platform that now reflects improved bounce rates and greater conversions—and grown its enterprise business. Today, 20% of its total revenue comes from enterprise business, up from 2% pre-migration.

Writesonic

The AI revolution has fundamentally reshaped customer expectations. Beyond essential uptime and performance for business-critical operations, the seamless integration of intelligent AI features is now the new expected standard.

Writesonic is an AI-powered marketing and SEO platform that streamlines research, strategy, content creation, and optimization into a single interface. Its all-in-one approach features AI agents handling end-to-end SEO workflows, content creation, and generative engine optimization (GEO). As one of the first to pioneer GEO, Writesonic uniquely helps brands track their visibility in AI search engines, offering actionable recommendations to improve brand presence in AI-generated responses. Tailored for marketing teams, agencies, and businesses seeking automation and data-driven solutions, the company has evolved from its conversational AI agent Chatsonic into a suite of specialized, round-the-clock AI marketing agents.

The company emerged from a clear need: to accelerate content creation for marketing needs. Writesonic founder and CEO Samanyou “Sam” Garg turned a side project into a start-up business. Acceptance into a leading start-up accelerator program fed Garg’s energy and technical acumen, which resulted in achieving his vision of creating AI solutions to help marketers and other content creators write smarter and faster.

However, a critical challenge arose. As queries and requests from the company’s increasing user base surged, so did its cloud platform instability. Platform outages could last hours, and access to the newest AI models could take days or months. An unreliable cloud infrastructure affected customer satisfaction and the start-up’s ability to expand and attract more enterprise businesses.

“We were seeing scale in the number of queries we were processing. We were also seeing stability issues, especially AI models going down, which was inconvenient for our users, so we began looking for a stable, enterprise-grade AI-powered platform,” recalls Garg.

The Writesonic team wanted a solution that offered speed to help process its growing number of queries. It also sought access to enterprise-grade AI models to provide stability for its expanding platform. Because Writesonic aimed to attract more enterprise customers, security features and a brand with built-in trust would be critical.

Searching for a stable, AI-ready solution

Writesonic needed a scalable and fast solution to manage the requests that its AI products handle for the company’s users. Garg felt he could achieve the pace and stability needed to level up the Writesonic platform by using Microsoft products and services.

The company migrated its data estate to Microsoft Azure, an AI-ready cloud environment equipped with advanced features, and strengthened its foundation for continued innovation, while boosting the user experience. “Microsoft adds new capabilities regularly and moves at the speed of a start-up. This is important, because at Writesonic, we innovate for speed in our products,“ explains Garg. Today, all of Writesonic’s products run on the Azure platform.

Immediate access to leading AI models

Before migrating, accessing new models could be delayed, sometimes by months, and a potentially disruptive process. Now Writesonic can get AI models—typically the same day they’re available—from Azure AI Foundry Models. “The availability of enterprise-grade AI models was a decisive factor in our migration to Azure,” says Garg. “At Writesonic, we stay on the cutting edge of AI. The space moves very fast. Having near-immediate access to new AI models gives us a competitive advantage—the faster you move and the quicker you implement, the more steps ahead of your competitor you are.”

Currently, Writesonic is experimenting with o4-mini reasoning models in Azure OpenAI in Azure AI Foundry Models. “We like the intermediate report generation of the Azure OpenAI o4-mini and its favorable query response times,” explains Ashish Bedi, Sr. Staff Software Engineer and Cybersecurity Leader at Writesonic. The strong consolidation capabilities of the o4-mini reason through the AI agent’s initial plan, gather information from various knowledge sources, and quickly summarize results. The o4-mini also offers significant cost savings over a third-party model that Writesonic has also been using. “The final report is the most cost-contributing factor in our entire pipeline,” adds Bedi.

Addressing latency issues with Azure

The bulk of Writesonic’s users reside in the United States and Europe. One concern for Garg was latency caused by geographic separation of users, AI models, and databases. Users expect near-instant responses to queries. These latency gaps create dissatisfaction, and delays lead to drop-offs. “Minimal latency was the key driver for adopting Azure Database for PostgreSQL,” says Garg. Writesonic uses the service to perform business-critical transactional query patterns and critical data operations via rest APIs.

The company also set up the TimescaleDB extension on Azure Database for PostgreSQL to efficiently manage time-series queries and avoid the complexity and overhead of a dedicated data lake. “TimescaleDB directly addressed latency issues by streamlining query paths,” says Bedi.

Beyond that, Writesonic uses the built-in zoned redundancy in Azure Database for PostgreSQL to help ensure exceptional reliability. “We have experienced no downtime, achieving more than 99.999% availability,” adds Bedi. This availability rate surpasses the guaranteed service level agreement for Azure Database for PostgreSQL.

Writesonic uses Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for cost-effective and flexible workload scalability and the graceful node shutdown feature in AKS pods. This helps prevent interruptions to customer requests during traffic bursts, autoscaling, application updates, or node maintenance. Graceful shutdowns protect work in progress for customers and help ensure that resources are deployed correctly. “With AKS, we can seamlessly scale up or down based on user demand, helping ensure consistent performance,” says Garg.

Data security and the trust factor

Protecting user data is a top priority for Writesonic and customers. The enterprise-grade data security built into Azure is a boon, especially for Writesonic’s European customers that require localized hosting to meet privacy protocols.

“Microsoft’s reputation is an asset, especially when discussing AI model training and data security,” Garg points out. “Users do not want their data used for training models. Writesonic’s multitenant hosting, combined with Azure data policies, reinforces data protection.”

In addition to platform reliability and innovative capabilities and services, Garg explains that the collaboration with Microsoft comes with a trust factor, especially for enterprise customers. “We can move forward faster with bigger agreements, averting the six months of back-and-forth discussion with security teams,” he adds.

Writesonic continues driving innovation

Writesonic turned to Azure to achieve better stability and performance. The platform has helped take the company from 100,000 users to 10 million in just four years to uphold its mission of innovation in support of business growth.

“Our vision is to create fully autonomous AI marketing agents that provide proactive assistance, similar to Jarvis from Iron Man,” says Bedi. “We’re already delivering this with our SEO AI Agent and Content AI Agent that work 24/7 to handle end-to-end marketing workflows. What’s exciting is how we’re pioneering generative engine optimization to ensure brands remain visible in AI search results from ChatGPT and similar.” Continues Bedi, “With the high availability and advanced AI models in Azure, we’re accelerating our innovation in data-driven marketing automation that integrates with marketing tools to deliver real-time insights and automated fixes for SEO issues. This is transforming how marketing teams operate, reducing what used to take weeks into minutes.”

Enterprise revenue has significantly increased, now accounting for 20% of Writesonic’s total revenue, up from 2% pre-migration, a tenfold increase. Writesonic is more confident in its focus on expanding enterprise partnerships.

“We have stability, reliability, and data privacy with Azure—all the elements that allow us to move faster and make sure we are giving the latest and best to our customers,” concludes Garg.
