Obungi develops data platform for ALLPLAN with Microsoft Fabric

ALLPLAN required an upgrade from its traditional on-prem data warehouse to analyze and report on marketing and sales operations. It needed a solution that would expedite development cycles and adapt to the needs of its internal business users.

With Microsoft Fabric, Obungi helped its customer, ALLPLAN develop a new reporting infrastructure through its Microsoft Cloud solution.

ALLPLAN accelerated its development cycles, creating a scalable, efficient, and AI-ready solution. Together with Obungi and Microsoft, ALLPLAN is a leader in data transformation and ethical AI.

ALLPLAN

ALLPLAN aims to build a unified data system that would serve as the central platform for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector. By tapping into the potential of its data, the company plans to unlock new growth opportunities. As a global organization, this centralized platform is crucial for future success.

Headquartered in Munich, Germany, ALLPLAN, a part of the Nemetschek Group, is a global software vendor dedicated to developing and designing solutions for a better-built environment. The company distributes software for planning, designing, real estate, media, and entertainment. ALLPLAN has 20 locations globally and 600 employees. Its 240,000 users worldwide depend on software that will address the entire “Design to Build” process from the first concept to the final detailed design for prefabrication and construction. To continue to scale and support its global customers, ALLPLAN looks for ways to drive innovation and growth.

ALLPLAN’s customers depend on a central platform for the global AEC industry enabling customers to realize sustainable, functional, and outstanding structures for a better-built environment. However, on-premise data warehouses and long reporting cycles created bottlenecks for the business.

With a classic SQL server environment, ALLPLAN needed a solution powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that would allow for rapid development and satisfy the fast-changing and evolving marketing and sales operations requirements of its business customers.

Expertise in real-time

ALLPLAN needed a platform capable of supporting rapid development to meet the dynamic and evolving demands of its customers. With its existing Microsoft on-premises data warehouse, a Microsoft cloud-based solution was an obvious next step.

"After assessing the status quo, it became clear that the on-premises system lacked scalability and agility. Moving to the cloud now allows ALLPLAN to keep up with the pace of modern business and digital transformation,” said Christopher Jones, CEO of Obungi.

Obungi enabled its customer, ALLPLAN, to establish a best-practice data platform by centralizing all of its data in the cloud. Obungi utilized Microsoft Fabric for an all-in-one data and cloud solution.

OneLake serves as the foundation, consolidating every data source into a singular platform. From there, Power BI turns raw data into actionable insights. The Fabric Data Engineering toolset transforms the data seamlessly, to fuel smarter decisions while the Azure Data Factory creates reliable connections to source systems so that everything is streamlined.

“Microsoft Fabric brought everything together seamlessly. The combination of its data integration, analytics tools, and AI capabilities simplified the entire migration process. Obungi’s expertise was crucial—they understood the challenges and worked as an extension of ALLPLAN’s analytics team,” said Jones.

By utilizing Microsoft Fabric, development cycles were shortened, allowing business departments to access more timely and precise analytics for decision making. Additionally, it's scalable, efficient, and AI-ready.

Moving forward together

To meet the growing business demands of partners and customers, companies will have to be nimble and harness the power of data and AI.

ALLPLAN is progressing toward expanding its use of AI and machine learning (ML) applications. The company has also launched its first Lakehouse and reporting tools into production. Through its partnership with Obungi and Microsoft, ALLPLAN is positioned as a leader in data transformation and ethical AI.

“ALLPLAN has established a foundation that not only addresses immediate data challenges but also paves the way for innovation with AI and machine learning. We’re excited about the opportunities this brings for ALLPLAN’s future business journey,” said Jones.
