Hevolus aims to revolutionize the immersive consumer experience using Azure AI

Hevolus Innovation is an international leader in the development of technologies for immersive customer journeys. It knew its mission to revolutionize retail, logistics, education, and maintenance sectors demanded a data platform capable of catalyzing its planned innovations, while staying responsive to customer needs and market opportunities. 

An early adopter of AI mixed-reality innovation 

“When I joined Hevolus in 2023, we began shifting from creating custom mixed-reality applications to building a SaaS platform for our customers to bring to life their own consumer experiences,” says Fabio Santini, CEO at Hevolus. 

Hevolus chose to create the entire platform on Microsoft Azure for its ability to combine extended reality and AI to create a digital transformation solution that was economically accessible to its customers. 

As its first solution, Hevolus developed XRCopilot, a novel, cross-industry cloud platform providing immersive consumer experiences. Created using Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Services, Azure Service Bus, the Web Apps feature of Azure App Service, and Azure API Management, XRCopilot connects AI with extended reality in a way that lets a user import a 3D model, edit the model, infuse it with AI, generate a QR code, and then make it AI interactive for a full augmented reality experience. 

Unique, immersive retail experiences 

With XRCopilot, shoppers at retail furniture partners’ stores can view products without requiring assistance and visualize how they would fit in their homes. “We are seeing a notable increase in conversion rates for customers using our technology to sell products,” explains Santini. “The ability for retail shoppers to use augmented reality to visualize a purchase—then directly interact to get more information about prices, discounts, colors, and materials—also helps our customers significantly reduce consumer product returns.” Continues Santini, “This level of immersive experience within the buy-cycle streamlines business operations and, most of all, ensures a more optimal consumer shopping experience.”   

Consumer engagement beyond retail   

Retail is not the only industry benefiting from Hevolus’s immersive cloud platform. Students are consuming extended reality instruction to learn about, for example, Leonardo da Vinci. “A teacher can create a lesson showing 3D images of da Vinci and his historical works, and students can scan a QR code to interact with these objects, asking questions as if they were talking to Leonardo da Vinci himself,” explains Santini. Hevolus is excited about the potential of this solution, given its growing number of customers within the academic space.

The future envisioned 

Moving forward, Hevolus plans to refine the XRCopilot platform by enhancing the user experience with voice commands. In the long term, says Santini, “We hope to create an algorithm that can automatically understand and interact with 3D models. 

“Microsoft Azure AI makes it possible for extended reality and AI to benefit any business, not just the biggest or most innovative,” explains Santini.  

Santini is excited for the future, concluding, “We believe extended reality will become a mainstream technology, eventually replacing traditional screens with immersive experiences, using products like Azure OpenAI Service. Hevolus will be right there for it all.”
