Research Intern for AI and Sensing for Life and Beyond Group

Group Introduction:

The AI and Sensing for Life and Beyond at Microsoft Research Asia is dedicated to advancing human-centered AI and multimodal sensing technologies that impact healthcare, productivity, and human connection. We conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of wireless sensing, neuroscience, machine learning, and AI-driven systems to unlock real-world applications beyond traditional settings.

Our research areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Wireless sensing and communication systems
  • Intelligent wearables
  • Edge computing
  • Large Language Models (LLMs) systems
  • Multimodal ML
  • Applications of metasurfaces in communication and perception
  • Machine learning and AI for cognitive and physiological understanding

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research and development of algorithms in wireless sensing & communication, health modeling, or AI-driven systems to drive innovation.
  2. Design and implement models to address real-world challenges and enhance system performance.
  3. Perform data collection, analysis, modeling, optimization, and deployment to support end-to-end prototyping.
  4. Improve existing codebases and optimize algorithmic performance for better research and engineering outcomes.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD student in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Communication Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and mathematical modeling.
  3. Strong programming skills and hands-on experience with research or development projects (e.g., Python, C++, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  4. Strong interest in one or more of the following areas: AI, signal processing, neuroscience, wireless communication, or health technologies.
  5. Fast learner with the ability to work independently and solve problems proactively.
  6. Proficiency in English as a working language (reading, writing, communication).
  7. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Internship Duration Requirements:

Must obtain permission from your academic advisor and commit to at least three months of internship.

工作职责:

  1. 参与与无线感知、健康建模或多模态 AI 相关的算法研究与开发,推动核心技术创新;
  2. 设计并实现模型,用于解决实际问题并提升系统性能与可靠性;
  3. 进行数据采集、分析、建模、调优及部署,支持原型系统的端到端开发;
  4. 优化现有代码结构与算法性能,提升研究效率与工程质量。

任职要求:

  1. 计算机科学、电子工程、生物医学工程、人工智能、通信工程或相关专业的本科/硕士/博士在读学生;
  2. 扎实的数据结构与算法基础,具有良好的数学建模能力;
  3. 具备良好的编程能力和项目经验(如 Python / C++ / PyTorch / TensorFlow 等);
  4. 对 AI、信号处理、无线通信或健康技术中的一个或多个方向有浓厚兴趣;
  5. 具备快速学习能力,能够独立思考和解决问题;
  6. 英语读写流利,能够作为工作语言使用;
  7. 良好的沟通协作能力和团队精神;

工作时间要求:

能获得导师许可并保证至少三个月的实习。
