Why use AI as your book review writer?

Whether you share book reviews on your blog, social media channels, or a platform where you purchase books, generative AI is a powerful tool for crafting more impactful reviews. Writing reviews becomes a faster process when you ask AI to edit your book reviews or provide ideas on improving them. Plus, if you really loved (or hated) a book but don’t know how to express your thoughts, AI will offer tips on what to include in your book review.

The simplest way to use AI for book reviews is to provide your basic ideas and ask AI to expand on it. But if you prefer a more hands-on approach with writing book reviews, there are other ways AI is beneficial.

Get a book review outline

Ask AI for advice if you’re unsure how to structure a book review. If you often write just one or two-sentence reviews, getting a detailed outline for your book reviews might inspire you to write a longer one. Consider these prompts to receive an AI-generated book review outline:

  • I’m writing a book review for a collection of five short stories. Create a cohesive book review outline for these short stories.
  • Create a book review outline so I can write a review of To Kill a Mockingbird.
  • Generate a book review outline to help me get my book review to at least one paragraph long.

Ask AI for synonyms

Instead of using words like “good” or “bad” to describe a book you read, why not use more moving language? A vibrant review is more likely to get people to read a book you love. Try these prompts to get better synonyms from AI:

  • What are other ways to say a book was engaging?
  • Provide ten synonyms for the word “slow” in bullet-point form.
  • Help me find more eloquent ways to describe a book that was addicting to read.

Refine your tone

The tone you use in your book review will affect how people perceive your review. There are several different tones you can use to write a book review, including:

  • Positive
  • Negative
  • Neutral
  • Enthusiastic
  • Critical
  • Humorous

For example, if you really didn’t like a book but couldn’t find a way to convey that in your review, modifying the tone of your review with AI will convey that sentiment. Copy and paste your review into your favorite AI platform and try these prompts:

  • How can I change the tone of this review into a critical review?
  • Identify ways I can make my review funnier.
  • Provide examples of where I use biased language in my review and show me how to make it neutral.

Analyze themes

Writing about book themes in your review will take it to the next level. Discussing themes will add more depth to your review and let potential readers determine whether or not they want to read a book. For example, “coming of age” is a popular book theme, but some readers might be tired of it since it can be a little predictable. Brainstorm different book themes with AI or ask it to identify types of themes with these prompts:

  • What are the main themes in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn?
  • What are the common themes in young adult novels?
  • How can you determine the central theme of a book?

Don’t forget to ask AI for assistance when writing your next book review. If you want to explore more AI use cases, see how to create a book reading schedule or run a book club with AI.
