Build a snowman with AI

There’s much joy to be found in building a snowman for all ages. AI is a great tool for building a creative snowman that stands out from the rest.

The origins of the snowman

Where did the snowman come from? The origin of the snowmen that pop up everywhere during the first big snow is not exactly clear. Art galleries and history show that our carrot-nosed friends date back to at least the 1300s. Michelangelo was even asked to commission a snowman. Since then, snowmen have been observed throughout history in different cultures whenever winter falls. The popularity of the snowman really took off in 1950’s America, notably with the “Frosty the Snowman” we all know and love.

How to make a snowman

Building a snowman is quite straightforward. How it usually goes is that you roll three snowballs, the base being the biggest, followed by two balls descending in size—the smallest being the head. Then, all the snowballs are stacked on top of one another. It always helps to have another hand, as stacking the snowballs gets heavy and having others join in amps up the fun. Once you finish shaping your snowman, it’s tradition to line up rocks or coal vertically across the bottom two snowballs to create the illusion of buttons, place one stick on each side for the arms, and put a top hat on the head, followed by a carrot nose and more coal/stones for eyes and mouth. It doesn’t have to be this way, though; you have the creative freedom to dress up your snowman how you want.

Tips for using AI to make a snowman

With AI, finding unique snowman inspiration for your next snow day is simple. All you need is an AI prompt, and you’re ready to go. Follow these smart AI tips for a DIY snowman:

Check the weather

Whether you build a snowman depends on the snowfall (no pun intended). Will it be light and powdery or packing snow? If it’s the latter, that’s the perfect condition to build a snowman. If you’re unsure what the weather calls for, turn to search AI by asking, “What is the weather outlook for the next week in the [your location] area?” It will then tell you the current forecast, and if it calls for snow, try asking what type of snow it’ll be with a prompt like, “Will there be packing snow?”

Visualize your snowman

Generative AI lets you visualize your ideas through image generation to offer a glimpse of what your snowman might look like. Use these images as a blueprint for crafting your snowman. For example, if you have a certain look you want to create, like a cat-inspired snowman, ask AI, “Create an image of a cat-inspired snowman.” It will then generate a cute cat snowman. Refine your prompts with different details for a more accurate representation of your ideas.

Don’t have an idea in mind? Use AI to brainstorm good ideas for your snowman, from faces to accessories. Specify a theme, style, or any relevant details, and watch as AI conjures up fun and innovative designs. An example prompt could be, “Show me silly snowman ideas.”

Find supplies

Once you have an idea picked, leverage AI search to find supplies to build your perfect snowman. Some AI tools access real-time data, helping you locate the best deals and sources for your snowman essentials while staying within your budget. Provide AI with your image inspiration, and say, “What products do I need to recreate this snowman in real life? Could you provide links to each item to purchase online or nearby?”

Also ask about replacement items. Let’s say you’re missing a carrot. tell AI, “Suggest a carrot substitute for my snowman’s face.” It’ll come up with replacements for each item.
