Making sure software, products, and services are secure is one thing, but when Microsoft started opening brick-and-mortar retail stores it had an entirely different challenge on hand, especially when you factor in how fast we opened new stores.

We opened our first store in 2009 and just two years later, in 2011, we opened 30 stores. While the pace of growth has slowed, we’re still growing and we now have more than 100 retail stores scattered across the globe.

This explosive growth meant Microsoft IT had to move quickly to ensure our stores’ were secure and our customers’ privacy was protected. Take a look at this “Increasing security and privacy at Microsoft retail stores” case study to see how we tackled this challenge.
