Accelerating access to cancer research treatments
Each cancer care centre faces the daunting task of matching tens of thousands of patients to hundreds of life-saving clinical trials (research treatments) every month. With no scalable process to review hundreds of pages of mostly unstructured medical records per patient—while evaluating each trial against its 50 eligibility criteria—this can be overwhelming. As a result, many eligible patients miss out on trial opportunities.

Parsing unstructured data at scale
Triomics is leveraging several Azure AI (and OpenAI) services including Microsoft’s own SLM Phi3.5 by finetuning it to parse critical clinical information from unstructured data at scale. This allows it to provide an affordable solution for patients as well as providers.

By generating matches ahead of patient visits, the platform saves hours of manual effort daily and increases access to clinical trials.
At one of the leading cancer centers in Wisconsin, Triomics is automating the screening of 6,000 patient records each month for over 100 clinical trials, processing more than 10 million clinical documents monthly. In September and October 2024, 80% of all trial enrollments for some of the leading cancer sub-types were automatically generated prior to patient visits. This demonstrates both reduced provider workloads and enhanced patient access to clinical trials.
