Enhancing food security with AI

Farmers face challenges with respect to unpredictable weather conditions, uncontrollable pests and diseases, higher production cost, loss of yield, soil degradation and connectivity with buyers/sellers.

Agricultural Development Trust, Baramati (ADT) wanted to implement a modernized, AI-driven agri-tech solution to help farmers manage their farms and production to overcome these challenges.

Data-driven farming

ADT deployed MS solutions like Azure Data Manager for Agriculture (ADMA) that facilitates data collection from various sources like satellites, weather providers, sensors. Another solution, Farmvibes.AI leverages AI to provide valuable insights for farmers on soil moisture, temperature, humidity, pH and other parameters. Additionally, Agripilot.ai uses Azure Maps and Azure OpenAI to provide farmers with actionable insights and recommendations for growing more food sustainably. These innovations empower farmers with data-driven tools to enhance productivity and sustainability in agriculture.

Real-time impact

Farmers have seen nearly 20%+ increase in the crop production with decrease in the cost of fertilizers by 25% via spot fertilization technique. This is combined with 8%+ reduction in water consumption and a 12%+ decrease in post-harvest wastage. The solution also benefits the environment by reducing water wastage, soil erosion, deforestation, chemical runoff, and greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the solution supports rural development and food security by increasing farm productivity, profitability, and resilience.
